HP 1.4 definice

25.5/30 = 85%
This is slightly better than last week, perhaps because I asked for slightly more words.
Now I will need to figure out a way how to REMEMBER all of these words...

Medek
Kate, guessing from context only, one read-through.
J.K. Rowlingová
Did I get it? 1 point for getting it completely, .5 point if I sort of got it.

Somebody banged? on the doors with so much power, that...they fell in?
The door was hit with such force that it swung clean off its hinges and with a deafening crash landed flat on the floor.

Harry looked at the giant. He wanted to thank him but the words would not form? on his mouth, so instead he asked, “And who are you?”
Harry looked up at the giant. He meant to say thank you, but the words got lost on the way to his mouth, and what he said instead was, “Who are you?”
0

Hagrid vypadal, jako by měl v příštím okamžiku vybuchnout.
Hagrid looked like he would have exploded? in the next moment.
Hagrid looked as if he was about to explode.
1

“Tak ty nevíš...vopravdu nic nevíš…” Hagrid si rukou prohrábl vlasy a ohromeně se na Harryho zahleděl.
“So you don’ know...really you don’ know anything…” Hagrid something-ed his hair with his hand and somethingly looked at Harry.
“Yeh don’ know . . . yeh don’ know . . .” Hagrid ran his fingers through his hair, fixing Harry with a bewildered stare.
1, though I thought it was shocked, not “bewildered”

Harry si uvědomil, že stojí s pusou dokořán a honem ji zavřel.
Harry noticed? that he was standing with his mouth ? and ?
Harry realized his mouth was open and closed it quickly.
1

“Ale ne, moje matka i otec pořád jen Lily tohle a Lily tamto, byli pyšní, že mají v rodině čarodějku!”
“But no, my mother and father were only Lily this and Lily that, they were proud that they had a witch in the family!”
“But for my mother and father, oh no, it was Lily this and Lily that, they were proud of having a witch in the family!”
1

“A já jsem samozřejmě věděla, že budeš taky takový, stejně divný, stejně - stejně nenormalní, a potom, když laskavě dovolíš, se dala vyhodit do povětří a tys nám zůstal na krku!”
“And of course I knew that you would be the same way, the same strange, the same abnormal, and then, when….”
“and of course I knew you’d be just the same, just as strange, just as — as — abnormal — and then, if you please, she went and got herself blown up and we got landed with you!”

“AUTOHAVÁRII!” zaburácel Hagrid a vyskočil tak rozzuřeně, že se Dursleyovi spěšně vrhli do kouta.
“A CAR ACCIDENT?” cried Hagrid and ??ed so angrily? that the Dursleys...
“CAR CRASH!” roared Hagrid, jumping up so angrily that the Dursleys scuttled back to their corner.
0 ← I thought this meant wild. But it really means enraged, or furious. They are a little bit similar, but different enough that I do not get a point.

Loupl po Dursleyových zlobným pohledem.
He shot? an angry look at the Dursleys.
He threw a dirty look at the Dursleys.
.5

Posadil se, chvíli upřeně zíral do ohně a pak řekl:
He sat, ...and then said:
He sat down, stared into the fire for a few seconds, and then said,
1

“No - pokud to méno nemusím vyslovit, radši se tomu vyhnu. Jako všechny.”
“No - if you should not say his name, it would be better to …. Like everyone else.”
“Well — I don’ like sayin’ the name if I can help it. No one does.”
1

Hagrid suddenly took out? a very dirty, ? handkerchief and blew his nose like a sea siren.
Hagrid suddenly pulled out a very dirty, spotted handkerchief and blew his nose with a sound like a foghorn.

But for the first time in his life he also felt? something different: ?, cold, and cruel ?.
and he remembered something else, for the first time in his life: a high, cold, cruel laugh.
1, but note that the English version uses a completely different word. “Piercing” and “shrill” are great words, but here they used “high.” Similar, not exactly the same.

“A pokud jde o to všecko, co ti tady Hagrid napovídal o tvých rodičích, byli to podivíni, o tom není sporu, a podle mě je bez nich na světě lip…”
“And if that’s all, that Hagrid ? about your parents, they were weird, …., and if you ask me the world is better without them…”
“and as for all this about your parents, well, they were weirdos, no denying it, and the world’s better off without them in my opinion…”
1, and I am very proud of figuring this one out, o tom není sporu! Though I thought it was “there is no doubt about it.”

He ?? to the ?, as if...and did not make a peep?
he flattened himself against the wall and fell silent.
1

“To je ta největší záhada…”
“That is the biggest …? Mystery?”
That’s the biggest myst’ry, see . . .
.5 I started to doubt myself with the sentences.

“Některý jako by so probudili z tranzu.”
“Some...:”
Some of ’em came outta kinda trances.
1

“Ale něco v tobě ho připravilo o všechnu sílu.”
“But something about you? took a way? all his power??”
but somethin’ about you stumped him, all right.”
1

“Řekl bych, že jste se museli zmýlit. Nemyslím, že bych mohl být čaroděj.”
“I think that you must be mistaken. I don’t think it’s possible that I’m a wizard.”
“Hagrid,” he said quietly, “I think you must have made a mistake. I don’t think I can be a wizard.”
1

All the strange things which always happened to his aunt and uncle happened when he was upset? or angry...
every odd thing that had ever made his aunt and uncle furious with him had happened when he, Harry, had been upset or angry . . .
1, although it does not really always mean to be sad and without power.

A když ho Dudley naposledy uhodil, nepomstil se mu snad, aniž si to vůbec uvědomil?
And if in the end Dudley...
and the very last time Dudley had hit him, hadn’t he got his revenge, without even realizing he was doing it?
1

He looked at Hagrid again, smiled, and...
Harry looked back at Hagrid, smiling, and saw that Hagrid was positively beaming at him.
1

“Já jsem ty dopisy četl, vždyť má s sebou mít samé nesmysly - knihy zaklínadel a hůlky a -”
“I read these letters, they all...books...and…”
I’ve read those letters and he needs all sorts of rubbish — spell books and wands and —”
1

“NEBUDU PLATIT ZA TO, ABY HO NĚJAKÝ POTRHLÝ STARÝ BLÁZEN UČIL TY SVOJE ČÁRY MÁRY!” vřeštěl strýc Vernon.
“I WILL NOT PAY FOR SOME ...OLD CRAZY PERSON TO TEACH HIM HIS HOCUS POCUS!” yelled Uncle Vernon.
“I AM NOT PAYING FOR SOME CRACKPOT OLD FOOL TO TEACH HIM MAGIC TRICKS!” yelled Uncle Vernon.
1, and my sentence was pretty funny.

The umbrella in his hand ….ed with a...and pointed? at Dudley.
He brought the umbrella swishing down through the air to point at Dudley
1

If...Harry saw that on his stepbrother...in his pants was sticking out? a curly? pig tail.
When he turned his back on them, Harry saw a curly pig’s tail poking through a hole in his trousers.
1 but I do not think I can use it the way I did. Can hair be zakroucené?

Hagrid looked at his umbrella and scratched his...
Hagrid looked down at his umbrella and stroked his beard.
1

Úkosem pohlédl na Harryho zpod svého hustého obočí.
? he looked at Harry from beneath? his ?
He cast a sideways look at Harry under his bushy eyebrows.
.5 I thought it meant from across, from over, but it means from under. Obviously, now that I think about it.

“Totiž - já do bradavický školy chodil taky, ale - ehm - abych řek pravdu, vyloučili mě.”
“Well - I went to Hogwarts too, but - um - to tell the truth, they expelled me.”
“Oh, well — I was at Hogwarts meself but I — er — got expelled, ter tell yeh the truth.
1

“Musíme do města, sehnat ti ty knižky a všechno vostatní.”
“We must go to the city to get? your books and everything else.”
“Gotta get up ter town, get all yer books an’ that.”
