Here is the post where I share all my tests. 

Here is the test of the top 10 main words I was memorizing which I had my friend make for me. Actually, she had her young child make it for me.

My answers:
Pes sice neumí psát, ale umí štěkat. Vrabec letěl přímo na strom. Letos byly nejlepší Vánoce. Musíš umět číst. Je třeba podpořit charitu. Roztíral vrstvu másla. V lavici ležela tabulka čokolády. Zkus běžet, aniž bys zakopl. Psa jsme měli mít už dávno. Klidně se třeba zblázni.

Hooray, I got all of these words correct.

Here is my quizlet test. This was purely a vocabulary test, and in imperfect one at that. Very imperfect. 127 new words. I stupidly did not check to see which words I missed before exiting, and I do not really feel like taking the dumb test again. So. Yeah. 94%.

Back to pády, here are my results: 

Um, I do not know what happened here. I guess I was really distracted or something and forgot ALL OF THE RULES for 7. pád plural.

I think something that would really help me with memorizing the pády is to simply just force myself to copy it out. Every week. So I am going to add that to my schedule of things to do. 

All in all, not a bad week. Actually, I feel really great about it.

A3.9 testy

So my "tests" were pretty good this week. As usual, I planned on giving myself too many. I only took one of the three quizlet tests which I had originally planned.

Eventually I will give myself the non-multiple choice tests. Obviously, taking a written test will be much more difficult and meaningful. But I'm going to start small.

The tests pretty much have all the words from that week - words that I picked up from a huge variety of contexts.

I am pretty surprised that merely by listening to about 25-28 sentences over and over and over and over and over I am able to pick up most of the other words, as well.

So yeah. Here's the progress.

Well, here's some screen shots of tests scores dumped in a pile.

Here's the takeaways:

7. pád, especially 7. pád plural is really difficult for me and needs to be studied more.

6. pád plural is easy to pick out of a multiple choice pile because it is the only one that ends in ch almost all the time. I think actually being able to create it myself on demand, especially when confronted with the extremely intimidating situation of talking with someone face-to-face, is going to be a lot longer coming than say, recognizing it in a book. But I guess that is normal.

4. and 5. pád plural are really hard for me still.

2. and 3. pád are the okayest. 

I saw radical dramatic improvement in my ability to memorize vocabulary words - rather, to maintain the memorization - after listening to the voice recordings of these words. It was pretty unbelievable how big of a deal it was to me.

Yeah. Words in context. REALLY IMPORTANT.

The vocab test score where I got only 98% I mixed up whatever stupid English definition I had for zničehonic and zčistajasna - and these words literally mean almost exactly the same thing. Perhaps they are used in slightly different contexts and carry different connotations, but only the barest, most minimum definition (and only one of them!) is possible to string together in a flashcard app. 

And that's okay. 

This puts me at 100% for Harry Potter 1, chapter 1 (HP 1.1) and HP 1.2 words which I chose.

I have been collecting words every week aside from the Harry Potter words, from all kinds of contexts including texting, talking, reading, etc. If I manage to get up enough courage to share this document someday, it would be great to repeat this process (getting sense-ical sentences, having a native speaker record them, translate them into some crippled version of English, record myself (or someone else) - listen to them over and over again when I go running or whatever). 

But I am not sure if I am truly capable of doing that. It is really, truly difficult to find a way to trust my new and old collaborators, for all kinds of crazy reasons like: fear that they will think I'm crazy for being so "into" this study of Czech. Fear that they will not like me. Fear that they will not understand and then just totally drop me as a friend or devalue our friendship or something like that. I guess those reasons are all basically made-up and it's mostly just trying to untangle a web of nasty wires in my brain that got all messed up from pregnancy. I have never felt this anxious about things - not depressed, just truly jittery almost all the time! - never in my life. 

But I'm not going to let that prevent me from learning Czech.

A3.7 testy

I took a break from the pády app for a while, but I returned to it and added...duh duh duhnn...plurals.

How can I know so many words and STILL SUCK at the noun rules?! Blerghhhhh.

Well, here's the actual evidence in the form of screenshots from my phone from throughout the week. Ale to přijde. I am not going to give up. It's going to be okay.

Apparently 7. pád needs a lot of work. Either that, or I took that particular test under large amounts of stress (parenting is hard).

I started to play around with quizlet's tests. The developers seem to have added an option to increase the limit to 100 questions (previously it was 48 or 49 max, which is a very weird number if you ask me).

But I didn't really go all out with it this week so I'm going to not post the results. I did try to practice...some...

Oh man, though. I listened to the full sentence sets MANY times. I REALLY like hearing Petr's voice speaking in full sentences. It clicks so much faster in a context. It will be great to get a variety of Czechs to contribute to speaking into the toaster. It's almost absurd how much more motivating it is. I don't really understand it. It makes no sense. Ale je to tak.
